Mel Ramos (1935-2018)
Bonnard's Bath, 1979
Signed, Dated, & Numbered Chromolithographic Print
Museum Quality Beechwood Frame with Tru Vue Museum Glass.
Conservation Mount
The “Pop Art Nude” king Mel Ramos recreates Pierre Bonnard's famous view of his bathtub-confined wife by painting his own wife in the same position and view, while eliminating Bonnard's Impressionistic style in favor of Ramos' own photo-realistic vision.
One of Ramos' more explicit nudes, Bonnard's Bath is special in that it stands alone as a work of fine art without Ramos' usual Pop Art appropriation of advertising products and name brands.
Ramos was directly inspired by Bonnard's painting in the Tate, London (The Bath, 1925), and created his own enduring masterpiece of color and feeling, depicting his wife in a sensitive and idealized form.
Condition is mint.
No stains, tears, or blemishes.
