MEL RAMOS (1935-2018), AC ANNIE, 1971 - SIGNED ORIGINAL PRINT - FRAMED

$4,000.00

Mel Ramos (1935-2018)

AC Annie, 1971

~30" x ~25"

Signed & Numbered Chromolithographic Print

Original Bruno Bischofberger, Zurich Series

(5,000 planned, only 2,500 reportedly produced)

Along with Andy Warhol and Wayne Thiebaud (Ramos' mentor), Ramos was a key American Pop Art progenitor and guru of the mid 20th century.

Based in California, outside New York's more sophisticated influences, Ramos focused on lampooning American consumer culture and sexually suggestive advertisements.

Ramos was dubbed "the undisputed American Pop Art master of the erotic female nude" in Sotheby's Gunter Sachs catalog (2012), which auctioned the original "AC Annie" oil on canvas for $1.1 million GBP (from which this print was drawn).

"AC Annie" is one of Ramos' most classic and tasteful nudes (despite the obvious phallic reference), evoking the Beach Boys and California Car Culture rather than the raw cynicism evident in his later work featuring almost ghoulish Hollywood moviestars alongside famous products like Coca-Cola, Baby Ruth, and Cohiba Cigars.

Excellent color saturation, no evidence of fading.

Original condition - no restorations or paper conservation.

Some small straight splits to edges of paper are nearly invisible in the pro-mounted gallery frame. Evidence of water staining to lower-left corner with a single dark spot on surface.

Museum-quality beechwood frame with Tru Vue Museum Glass and conservation mount.

Professional framing with this finest available glass is $1,000+ in most markets.

This is the perfect color of wood and mounting type for this print.

Truly beautiful.
